Workflow for Catholic Romantic Music (100614)

1.Apply to me for contributor status, offering a login and initial ID.

2. Establish name for composer using Library of Congress authority headings. If heading or database not available, choose based on preponderance of evidence in WorldCat, giving preference to American or other English-language cataloging, in that order.

3. Put name into composer list.

4. Click on name to create page. Paste template (below) into page.

5. Put in initial information: birth and death dates (usually in authority record). Put authorized name into category tags at bottom. If dates not known, leave defaults. For American composers, include “American composers” and “(state where most work done) composers”. Include “Composers in holy orders” for religious.

6. Check the following sources, in no particular order. Link to any score or media files found. Do not link to licensed media such as Naxos Music Library.

  • Wikipedia (if foreign composer, also foreign-language Wikipedia)
  • general Internet search, including YouTube
  • other specific reference works (cite)
  • national digital libraries (LC, Internet Culturale, Gallica, Australian, etc.)

7. list earliest edition of a given piece first, listing subsequent editions as 2nd-level (2 asterisk) entries.
