Life

Born: February 8, 1870, Danvers MA

Died: March 15, 1946, New York City, per MLR edition

Biography Born as 5th of at least 7 children, to shoemaker Philipp Korman (baptised in August 1839 as Philipp Jakob Chormann in Jöhlingen bei Karlsruhe, Germany) and his wife Bridget (McDonald). Still lived with his parents at age 30 in Salem MA. Studied in Leipzig 1908-1910, and on his return accompanied Adeline Patti in a special concert at the Metropolitan Opera. Toured as bass-baritone soloist on the B. F. Keith Theatre circuit under the name of James Banks. Served as organist-choirmaster in Catholic churches in Danvers, Clinton, and Salem MA.
