Life

Born: November 10, 1850, Willimantic CT

Died: March 5,1927, Providence RI

Biography Moved to Providence RI in 1870 to work as a telegraph operator. Became a chorister at Grace Church, later director. Studied voice with George Osgood, also with William Shakespeare and Giovanni Sbriglia. Sang the title role in the American premiere of Berlioz' Damnation of Faust in 1880. 1881-1921 conducted the Arion Club.awarded DMus honoris causa from Brown University in 1895.
