Died: April 25, 1944, Rome

Biography Dobici was born in Viterbo on December 11 1873 to Nazareno and Lucia Croce. He graduated in composition from the Reale Conservatorio Musicale di S. Cecilia in Rome in 1899, where he studied with C. De Sanctis. His career began in Viterbo, where he was appointed music director of the cathedral. He was initially drawn to musical theater, but after working on two unfinished operas, he turned to sacred music. He sided with the reform school gathered around Lorenzo Perosi. In 1910 P. De Santi, director of the Scuola superiore di musica sacra founded by Pope Pius X, invited him to join the initial theory faculty. In 1911 he joined the faculty of Santa Cecilia. While composing in the sacred tradition, he remained alert to current trends; at his death, scores by Schoenberg were found on his desk. Most of his compositions are preserved by his heirs or in the libraries of the religious foundations for which they were composed.
