Life

Biography He spent his childhood in Mondavio, then (1833) in Mondolfo, where he entered the Order of Friars Minor Conventual 26 August 1838. During the novitiate in Osimo he manifested his uncommon arrangement for music and was sent by his superiors at the music school of Bologna to study with A. Fabri. He interrupted his studies for a time, to work as a teacher, first in Rieti, then in Spello and Osimo, completing them later at the Conservatory of San Pietro a Majella in Naples, where he was a pupil of S. Mercadante and had some lessons too by Rossini. On October 27 1858 he became the director of the music chapel in the Basilica of St Francis in Assisi, writing for them numerous sacred compositions: various important Masses (including a solemn Mass performed also in the church of SS. Apostoli in Rome and another Requiem, for full orchestra, directed by him in Rieti ), parts of the Mass, vespers, psalms, hymns, motets and anthems, both a cappella and with instruments.
Ion 3 and 4 October 1891, he gave a concert in St. Francis of his compositions, the correspondent of the Gazzetta musicale di Milano (XLVI [1891], 48, p. 702) judged inspired grandeur of conception, as well, austere and spontaneous, whose melody was "served admirably by a deep technique". In 1894 he wrote a Transito, religious composition for baritone voice with four-part choir, to be executed for his own death, and dedicated to the baritone G. Santini, who sang for the first time on 4 January (the feast of St. Francis) in Assisi . Borroni was also an excellent organist and had many students, including the tenor A. Bonci.
Of his copious sacred work, only a few compositions were printed (Beata es, Virgo Maria, apostrophe for voice with organ, Foligno s.d., Salut à la Sainte Vierge Marie très Mère de Jésus. Duo, composé et publié à l'occasion VI du Centenaire de la Ste translation de la Maison de Lorette, Assizes in 1894, and Tota pulchra, four mixed voices with organ, Assisi 1932), while the majority was lost, according to Sparacio, "through neglect"; some compositions are preserved in manuscript in the Archive of the Cathedral of Rieti and the Conservatory of San Pietro a Majella in Naples (a nice introduction to the three hours of Agony of Our Lord Jesus Christ, for two songs and organ; mark: Od. 2.28) . A lot of music donated by Borroni was later published on behalf of others. An operetta, in two acts, of which Sparacio gives news, but not the title, appeared under another name, although corrected "commonly with the authorship of a monk of Assisi. "
