Born: Aalten, Gelderland, the Netherlands, November 10, 1827
Died: Cleveland. OH, December 31, 1900
Biography Joannes Theodorus Wamelink came to America in 1835 with his parents and 8 siblings, At age 14, he became first organist at St. Mary's of the Flats, Cleveland. Moved to Pittsburgh and studied composition with Charles B. Barr. Married Catherine Jane Sweetland (1834-1915; had 11 children) in Pittsburgh in 1953, returned to Cleveland, opened a piano shop on Superior Ave. Choir director at St. Johns Cathedral, Cleveland for 26 years (1870s and 80s) with a large choir,. FoundedGerman Harmonic Singing Society in 1871, put on 2 performances of Flotow's Martha and then the next year La somnabula with the Germania Orchestra in the pit. Buried in St. John's Cemetery
