Life
Born: 10/10/1831, Dreisslingen, Germany
Died: June 2, 1911 Friedlingen an der Donau, (or Stuttgart) Germany
Biography Brother of Fridolin and Franz Hamma, pupil at Stuttgart of the court chapelmaster Peter Joseph von Lindpaintner (1791–1856); then lived in Paris and Rome. In 1858 he went to Königsberg where he directed concert and singing societies in Koenigsberg until about 1871, when he went to Stuttgart, and became director of the Neue Musikschule. .In 1888 he went with his family to the United States. There he became music director of Church of Our Lady of Sorrows, Pitt Street, New York City, in Little Germany. While there, many of his sacred works were published by J, Fischer and Bro. and by Oliver Ditson. In 1904 he returned to Stuttgart, leaving his children behind.
